The Journey Begins

Thanks for joining me! Welcome to my blog, where I will be discussing all things music.

Growing up, I have always been surrounded by music. Born to parents who grew up in the 70s and 80s from very different cultural backgrounds, and being the youngest in a family of 6, has meant that I have frequently been exposed to so many different genres and forms of music. My dad has always loved his rock and soul music, and my mum has been a big fan of pop, disco and RnB. Naturally, my music taste has been shaped by both of them, and I have grown to become an avid listener of all of these genres, as well as discovering different genres such as indie pop rock, bedroom pop and neo-soul RnB.

My early teenage years were spent on social media sites such as Twitter and Instagram, constantly discussing artists and their music, the way they went about promoting songs and albums; dissecting live performances and speculating the real meaning behind lyrics. As I grew older, I began to consider different aspects of music, such as instrumentation and sampling, and became fascinated with the experience that comes along with listening to music. Now, in my early twenties, I am someone who jumps at the chance to take in live music and would consider myself to be a frequent concert goer. Music has found its way into every aspect of my life – I can’t go a day without listening to music, I create monthly playlists of all the music I discover, and I have even completed modules in my History degree delving into the history of modern music. Many of my friendships in life have found their roots in common love for music and certain artists, as well as the ability to appreciate music and its importance the way that I do.

Since I spend so much of my time talking and thinking about music, and I study a degree which is very much writing based, I thought it would be perfect to create a blog as a way to express all my thoughts and feelings! Thanks so much for visiting.
